Swing complaints arrive at our quotation desk in two sentences: "machine swings slow" or "swing is noisy". The cause, however, is rarely in the first component that gets blamed. Swing faults divide between the motor, the reduction gear, the swing brake and the hydraulic circuit that feeds them — and condemning a swing motor without a gauge reading is an expensive way to guess. Which Swing Motor and Reduction Does a Kobelco SK200-8 Use?
SK200-8 and SK210-8 class machines normally carry an axial-piston swing motor of the M5X130 class, quoted under Kobelco assembly numbers YN15V00077F1, YN15V00055F1 and YN15V00035F1. The motor drives a two-stage planetary swing reduction assembly quoted under YN32W00025F1, YN32W00022F2 and YN32W00019F1, which turns fast motor rotation into the slow, high-torque movement of the upper structure. Generation is the most common source of a wrong swing order, which is why the nameplate on the motor — not the machine model name — is the authority. Machine serial numbers carry build details that change internal parts; our serial number guide shows how much information sits on a data plate. Send the nameplate and the machine serial, and the assembly is identified before anything is ordered.
Six Swing Symptoms — and What Each One Points At
Slow swing in both directions.The motor or the pump. A worn motor loses speed symmetrically, so symmetric slowness with normal relief pressure points at the rotating group.
Slow swing in one direction only.Almost always the swing relief setting or the control valve spool on that side, not the motor. This is the classic case for a pressure gauge before an order.
Upper structure drifts or creeps on a slope.Swing brake wear, brake seal leakage, or internal motor leakage past the rotary group. A brake test separates the two in minutes.
Loud gear whine or knocking that rises with swing speed.The reduction gear. Check the gearbox oil for metal immediately — magnetic plugs tell the story.
Oil weeping between the motor and the gearbox.Motor shaft seal failure. Left alone, it drains the gearbox quietly and destroys the gear set that the seal was protecting.
Swing that is normal cold and slow hot.Internal leakage growing with oil temperature — a wear symptom worth catching early, while the repair is still a rebuild.
Diagnose Before You Condemn: the Four Checks That Settle It
Swing circuit pressure.Measure against specification in both directions. Low pressure that responds to relief adjustment is a valve problem; low pressure that does not is a pump or motor problem.
Case drain flow.Excessive case drain from the swing motor means internal leakage in the rotating group — the clearest single measurement of motor condition.
Swing brake test.With the engine off and the lever centred, creep on a slope that appears only under load points at the brake; creep that appears parked points at motor leakage.
Reduction gear oil.Drain a sample. Bright metal, glitter or a burnt smell condemns the gearbox regardless of what the motor is doing.

Rebuild, Replace or Reconditioned?
Rebuild when the housing, shaft and splines are sound: new seals, pistons, valve plate and bearings restore swing performance for a small share of the price of an assembly.
Replace when the reduction gear, output shaft or housing is damaged. A rebuild on a cracked or badly worn core is money recycled into a second failure.
Reconditioned is a legitimate option on expensive assemblies — a used core rebuilt to specification, with the critical surfaces renewed and the grade stated openly on the quotation. It must never be sold as new.
Inside the rotating group, component quality decides whether the repair lasts. How often should swing gearbox oil be changed?Follow the interval in the machine's own service documentation from the
machine manufacturer, and sample the oil earlier if the machine swings in dust or heat. Oil condition is the cheapest gearbox insurance there is.
How fast can a swing motor ship?Common references are in stock in Guangzhou and normally move by air express within days; unusual builds are confirmed with an honest lead time rather than an optimistic promise.
