What a Seal Kit Fixes — and What It Cannot

It cannot fix a scored rod.Chrome damage from a stone strike or a bent rod will destroy the new rod seals within weeks. If the rod chrome is worn in the seal path, the rod must be repaired or replaced with the rebuild.
It cannot fix a distorted barrel.Over-pressure events and impacts can lose a barrel its roundness; a new piston seal in an out-of-round barrel is a short life. Barrels can sometimes be re-honed, sometimes must be replaced.

How to Identify the Correct Seal Kit
Start with the cylinder's own stamps.Many cylinders carry a serial or assembly number stamped on the barrel near the port — this beats every catalog guess.
Machine model, serial and cylinder position.Boom, arm and bucket cylinders on the same machine differ, and mid-generation builds change dimensions.
Measure if you can.Bore, rod diameter and, where possible, the seal groove dimensions. Two cylinders of the same size can often share a kit across brands — but only measurement, not assumption, proves it.
