Excavator Main Control Valve: When to Reseal, When to Replace, and How Section Count Decides the Price
The main control valve is the most misunderstood line on an excavator quotation, because its price depends on something most buyers never specify: how many sections it has, and what is bolted to each one. Two valves that look identical from the outside can differ by thousands of dollars and be completely non-interchangeable. This guide explains what a control valve does, how to tell whether yours needs a reseal or a replacement, and how to order one that matches the pump feeding it. Guangzhou Shenyue Machinery Technology Co., Ltd. quotes valves daily across Kobelco, Komatsu, Hitachi, Doosan, Hyundai, Sany and Caterpillar machines.

A control valve is one of the few components where we will actively slow a buyer down, because a wrong valve is a non-returnable mistake — it does not sit on a shelf waiting for the next customer.
First, Identify the Valve From Its Nameplate or Casting Number
A control valve is identified by make, model, section count and casting or nameplate number — not by machine model. The same 20-tonne excavator can leave the factory with a different valve between production runs, and machines rebuilt in the field often carry a valve that was never original. Photographs from three angles plus the casting number and the machine data plate resolve the identity in most cases. Our catalogue, for example, carries a control valve assembly referenced as LC30V00028F5 and a valve assembly commonly referenced as YY30V00058F2 for SK130-8 and SK140-8 class machines — two different valves that both legitimately belong to the same machine class.
Symptoms That Point at the Valve — and Symptoms That Do Not
Reseal or Replace — the Honest Arithmetic
A valve reseal kit — spool seals, O-rings, bondeds and back-up rings — is a legitimate repair when the symptom is external weeping or mild internal leakage and the body and spools are still sound. It stops being legitimate when the spool has picked up scoring, the body bore has worn oval, or a section has run hot enough to discolour the housing. Where the body is worn, a replacement valve is cheaper than the downtime of a second strip.
The Valve Must Match the Pump and the Relief Setting
A control valve is not a stand-alone product. It sits between a pump with a specific flow and pressure characteristic and a set of cylinders and motors with their own pressure limits. Replace the valve and the relief setting has to be verified afterwards, on a gauge, at operating temperature — not left at whatever it was when it arrived. The pump families that dominate this market, including the Kawasaki K3V and K5V tandem range from Kawasaki Heavy Industries, Nabtesco, KYB, Toshiba and Bosch Rexroth units, each want a valve matching their control method: negative control, positive control or load sensing. Mismatching the control method is why some replacement valves work beautifully at low idle and feel flat at full flow.
Where the Money Actually Goes
What We Need to Quote Your Valve
Send five things: the valve casting or nameplate number (photographs from three angles help); the machine model and serial number; the number of sections and the function order; the fault you are seeing and how long it has been present; and the quantity and destination port. Quotations normally come back within 24 hours with the complete valve, the reseal kit and each spool, relief and solenoid priced separately, every line carrying its grade and maker. Photographs of the actual valve are provided before the carton is sealed.
Control Valves — FAQ
Buy the Valve Once
Send the casting number and the machine details together and the team at Guangzhou Shenyue Machinery Technology Co., Ltd. will confirm the section count, the control method and the relief specification before quoting — then photograph the actual valve before it is shipped. One accurate valve beats three attempts, and the third attempt is always the expensive one.
