Excavator Engine Overhaul: Cylinder Kits, Bearing Sets and Gasket Kits Across Brands

An overhaul is the largest single parts order most fleets ever place. What a cylinder kit actually contains, why the bearing set must be matched to the crank grind, and how Isuzu, Cummins, Yanmar and Hino engines differ in the parts you must order together.

Excavator Engine Overhaul: Cylinder Kits, Bearing Sets and Gasket Kits Across Brands

An engine overhaul is the largest single parts order most excavation businesses ever place — and the one where a missing 20-dollar part turns a two-week repair into a two-month one. Cylinder kits, bearing sets, gasket sets, valve train and fasteners all have to be correct at the same time, because the block is already stripped on the floor. This guide covers how kits are built for the engines that dominate the fleet: Isuzu 4HK1 and 6HK1, Cummins B3.3 and QSB, Yanmar 4TNV, Hino J05, J08 and P11C, and Mitsubishi D04FR and D06FR. Corbay quotes these kits daily from Guangzhou.

Corbay is the international export brand of Guangzhou Shenyue Machinery Technology Co., Ltd., Guangzhou, China. The company has supplied excavator parts since 2007, holds 3,000+ part types on the shelf and 100,000+ part numbers available to order through original supply channels, and works with more than 100 brands.

When an Engine Needs an Overhaul, Not a Repair

The decision point is oil consumption and blow-by, not hours on the clock. An engine that burns oil, breathes heavily from the filler cap and shows low compression on two or more cylinders is telling you the cylinder kit is finished. Replacing a head gasket in that condition buys weeks, not years. The honest test is compression, oil pressure and a look at the liners: if the crosshatch is gone and there is a wear ridge at the top of the bore, the engine is in overhaul territory whether or not it still starts well.

What a Cylinder Kit Actually Contains

The core kit.A liner or cylinder sleeve, a piston, a piston ring set, a piston pin and the pin circlips. Buying these as a matched kit is not marketing — pistons and liners are honed and sized to each other, and mixing a new piston into a worn liner is the fastest way to burn oil again.
What is usually sold separately.Bearing sets, gasket sets, valve train, injectors and the oil pump are separate lines on most quotations — exactly where buyers get caught short. Ask for them explicitly.
Sleeve or parent bore. Some families use a dry liner pressed into the block; others have a parent bore that must be bored and honed oversize. The engine family decides this, and it changes both the price and the machining time.

Reference Numbers We Quote Every Day

To make this concrete: for the Hino J05 and J08 families we quote liners commonly referenced as VHS114673200 / L16576-YB, pistons such as VH130053220A / VHS130AE0100, ring sets such as VHS130BE0R80 / VHS130BE0391, connecting rod bearings such as VH13041E0C40, main bearings such as VHS117012140 and head gaskets such as VH11115E0151; for the larger P11C, liners such as VH11463E0020 and main bearings such as VH117011851A; and for the Mitsubishi D04FR and D06FR engines, liners such as VA3430710500 / VA3430700501. Every one is confirmed against the engine nameplate before it ships — the nameplate is the authority.

Bearing Sets Must Match the Crank, Not the Catalogue

Bearings are the most common cause of a failed overhaul, and almost always for the same reason: they were ordered in standard size before the crankshaft was measured. Grind the crank and the journals move down a step — 0.25 mm, 0.50 mm, sometimes further — and the bearing shell has to move with it. The same applies to connecting rod bores, which are honed when the rods are resized. Our advice is simple: strip, measure, then order. Send the journal diameters and rod bore sizes with the enquiry and the bearing set comes back at the right step the first time.

Gasket Sets: Head Set or Full Set?

A head set covers the top of the engine — head gasket, rocker cover gasket, manifold gaskets, injector seals and the small O-rings. A full set adds the sump, front and rear crankshaft seals, timing cover and oil cooler seals. On a genuine overhaul, take the full set: the extra cost is small next to the labour of a second strip for a leaking rear seal. Hino buyers also routinely ask for the crankshaft front seal, commonly referenced as VHSZ31179002 / VH982879103A, and injector cover seals such as VH2368178030 / VHS230741070 — both held in the warehouse rather than chased. The engine maker's own pages, such as Hino Global, are the right cross-check when the engine family itself is in doubt.

What We Need to Quote an Overhaul

Six things get an accurate overhaul quotation in one pass: the engine nameplate photo or engine model and number; the machine model and serial number; the fault and the running hours; whether the crank has already been ground and to what step; the quantity of engines; and the destination port. Quotations normally come back within 24 hours, itemised line by line, with photographs of the actual parts before the carton is sealed. Every line is quoted as genuine, OEM-quality or aftermarket with the grade stated in writing. On a mixed fleet, list every machine model you run — Guangzhou Shenyue Machinery Technology Co., Ltd. will build a kit per engine family. Engine Overhaul Parts — FAQ

Can I buy only the liner and piston I need, not the whole set?Yes. Single-cylinder parts are quoted as their own lines, and on an engine where only one bore has failed it is a legitimate repair — but choose the grade with the engine's remaining life in mind, and accept that a single new piston beside three worn bores will not restore the engine balance.
Do you supply the machining specification with the kit?We supply the part numbers, the oversize steps available and the assembly references we hold. Final machining tolerances come from the engine manufacturer's service data for that engine family, which is the correct authority — not from the parts supplier.
How do I request a quotation and how fast will I get a reply?Send the engine nameplate photo, machine model and serial, fault and running hours, quantities and destination port through the contact page — Guangzhou Shenyue Machinery Technology Co., Ltd. normally replies within 24 hours with every grade priced on the line.

Order the Whole Kit, Once

The difference between a two-week overhaul and a two-month one is rarely the machining — it is the second shipment. Send the engine and machine details together and the team at Guangzhou Shenyue Machinery Technology Co., Ltd. will quote the cylinder kit, the bearing set at the right step, the full gasket set and the valve train in one pass, confirm each line against the nameplate, and photograph the parts before they leave Guangzhou.
