China's National Day is 1 October, the date that marks the founding of the People's Republic of China in 1949, and the statutory holiday that follows runs from 1 to 7 October - the seven days the country calls Golden Week. Because every Chinese company, freight forwarder and customs broker publishes its own arrangement for that week, overseas buyers often assume the whole supply chain stops for seven days. National Day and Golden Week: What the Dates Actually Mean
National Day itself is 1 October. The statutory holiday period is 1 to 7 October, seven consecutive days commonly called Golden Week because travel, family visits and domestic tourism are concentrated into the same window. It is a public holiday for the whole country, but it is not a seven-day shutdown for every business. Manufacturers, trading companies, warehouses and logistics providers each publish their own arrangement, and the differences matter to a buyer. Planning for the longest possible closure, rather than asking what a particular supplier is actually doing, is how orders end up placed a week later than they needed to be.

That is the detail most overseas buyers miss. A seven-day national holiday does not mean seven days of silence from us, and a shipment planned for the second half of the week does not have to wait for the holiday to finish.
What Happens to Enquiries Sent Between 1 and 3 October
Any enquiry, parts list or document that arrives during the closure is logged when it arrives, not when it is opened, and it is worked through in the order it was received from 4 October. Nothing is lost and nothing is quietly dropped: a list sent on 1 October is answered before one sent on 4 October. That makes the closure a useful moment to send a complete package rather than a fragment. Machine model, serial number, part numbers or photographs, quantities and destination port can all be assembled while the office is closed, so the quotation can be built immediately on 4 October instead of waiting for details that were never sent.
Freight, Customs and Courier Capacity During Golden Week
The real constraint during Golden Week is usually not the supplier - it is everyone else. Freight forwarders, customs brokers, airlines, trucking companies and express couriers all run reduced shifts across parts of the holiday. Air cargo space is typically tightest in the days immediately before and after the break, because shipments that would have moved during the week are pushed to its edges, and a small parcel that normally flies in two days can take noticeably longer. Ocean bookings should be made well in advance, since container space and sailing schedules around the holiday fill up early. The parts can leave our warehouse on 4 October, but the transport network around them is slower, and that is where a delay actually comes from.
